We had another cleft clinic appointment for Gideon. It's never a fun day. It's LONG! It's anxiety-producing for him. He starts getting really upset as soon as we pull into the parking garage. The anxious, nervous behavior starts, as does all of the reassuring I try to accomplish. It's always right in the middle of nap time too, which is horrendous! And it's LONG, did I mention that? LOL

I try my best to prep him for what the day involves each time and now that he's getting older, he is more able to understand. I even hold him the way he will be held and show him how the doctor will need him to say "AH" and turn his head to see in his ears. We practice beforehand.
Well, this time I think it worked! We had three visits this time...audiology, ENT and then the cleft surgeon. He got a little upset during the audiology exam, but by the time we made it to ENT I had reminded him of what we would be doing and HE DID SO WELL! There wasn't even any crying! It was the same with his surgeon. No crying! I'm so proud of him. I think the repetition of these appointments has given him no choice, but to get used to it which is quite sad actually. No kid should have to see the doctor this much! But this appointment wasn't nearly as horrendous as usual, aside from the ludicrous waiting times of course ;) and for that, we are thankful!
